What kind of notarization do you need?
Notarizing a Signature
The notarization process generally involves appearing before the notary with identification, confirming the document and signing in the notary's presence.

Certified True Copies
A notary can review an original document and certify that a copy is a true copy of the original that was presented.

Documents Obtained Online
Some records are delivered electronically and therefore have no physical original. Depending on the situation, an affidavit may be used to confirm that the electronic document was obtained through a reliable portal.

Documents for Another Country
A notarized document being used outside Canada may require an additional authentication step, including an apostille issued by the Province of British Columbia.

Do I need to attend in person?
The current notarization process described by D. MEHTA & ASSOCIATES requires your physical presence before the notary together with your identification.
Should I bring identification?
Yes. Identification is part of the process because the notary must confirm the identity of the person whose signature is being notarized.
Can you certify a true copy?
Yes. The original document is reviewed and a copy can be certified as a true copy of the original presented to the notary.
What if my document only exists electronically?
Certain electronically obtained records may be handled using an affidavit confirming how the document was obtained. Contact the office with the document details before your visit.
My document is going outside Canada. Is notarization enough?
Not necessarily. Documents for another country may require additional authentication or an apostille. Requirements differ by country, so confirm the destination requirements before relying on notarization alone.
Can I just drop in?
The office indicates that drop-ins are possible during normal business hours, but an appointment is recommended so you can receive priority service.
